What is Foam Rolling Doing?

What’s the point?

what it does

It relieves what’s called “neurological tone” or “tightness” in your muscles

You would need thousands of pounds of force to “change the tissue” which is what most people think of when it comes to foam rolling.

Essentially

its a signal to your brain saying “hey this area is tight, let’s relax a bit”.

It doesn’t make sense to be completely loose 100% of your day. It’d simply be too hard for your body, so your brain uses this “tone” to create rigidity in areas like the arches of your feet and the big muscles of your legs and back.

Your Body is Amazing

Take care of it and it will take care of you.

Foam rolling is not an essential part of a daily routine, but it can be and it should certainly be used in scenarios where you just want to feel better and loosen up.

If it feels better after, keep doing it. If it doesn’t make it any better, maybe find a better use of your time than foam rolling to get your tissue stimulated.

The more consistently you do it the better it gets (obviously).

For me

I’m pretty religious about standing my bare feet on a foam roller, as well as hanging from my hands daily. Each of these take far less than a minute and the impact 2 minutes can make is astonishing.
